The origin of the fashion rule, “Don’t wear white after Labor Day”, is difficult to determine.
The rule originally was more closely related to, “Only wear white shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day”. The rule didn’t apply to tennis shoes, boots, and bridal shoes or winter white clothing.
One origin of this fashion rule is temperature. White clothes reflect heat and sun, so they make great summer clothes. Dark clothing absorbs heat and sun, so it is great to wear in the winter.
Another origin states this rule was started by old-money folks. This rule was given to the droves of new people entering the middle class in the late 19th century so they knew the standards of this class.
However, it came about; the rule is not followed as strictly today. So, wear those white jeans and enjoy!
This is something new for me. When it comes to weather, it's understood why wearing white or black. Didn't know till now the significance of wearing it in other cases which determine people's standards.
